Wright Preparatory Academy is a tuition-free public charter school serving students in kindergarten through eighth grade in Northeast Canton, Ohio. Ohio grades every public school on the same state report card, and Wright Prep earned a 3-star overall rating for the 2024-25 school year. It's the #1 charter school in Stark County. Over the past two years, the school's Performance Index score climbed more than 40 percent, from 62 to 65.4, one of the steepest upward trajectories among charter schools in the region.

Wright Prep is built around high academics, which means the school organizes every part of a student's day around developing real knowledge and strong thinking. Academic depth isn't a special program for a few students. It's the method every teacher uses in every classroom. Students read hard texts, work through demanding problems, and explain their thinking out loud. The goal isn't to cover the material. It's to make sure each child actually understands it and can use it.

Wright Prep is also a small school by design. With fewer students in each classroom, teachers build real relationships — they know each student's name, his or her strengths, and exactly where he or she needs to grow. That combination of high academics and a family-centered culture is what separates Wright Prep from a larger district school.

It's a publicly funded school. There's no tuition, no fees, and no cost to families.

  • The school provides free transportation for eligible families.
  • The school partners with Enrichment, a local community organization, and will be offering band to students in grades 5-8 for the 2026-27 school year
  • The school offers movement classes for our Kindergarten students and partners with the Girl Scouts of America to allow our students in grades K-4 to earn various and grade appropriate and leveled badges
  • We offer girls volleyball, boys and girls basketball, and boys and girls track

Community School

Wright Preparatory Academy is a public, community school. We are our own school district sponsored by the Charter School Specialists, which provides oversight and enforces academic, fiscal, and legal accountability. We are managed by ACCEL Schools, a high performing network of over 50 charter schools located throughout the United States.

Community Schools (Charter Schools) offer families an alternative to the local public school. Founded in 2014, ACCEL Schools is a K-12 public charter school management organization (CMO) serving students across the United States in brick-and-mortar, virtual, and hybrid school settings.
